The Help and Shakespeare

Last month our book club discussed The Help by Kathryn Stockett. To kick off the discussion we had a fun dinner with some courses similar to what they might have had at the time the book was set.

Amy and Gillian also made us some delicious 'terrible awful' pie.  Theirs was 100% chocolate though, unlike Minny Jackson's from the book.

After dinner and pie we watched the movie version of The Help and had a great discussion of the story.  It was really interesting to compare the movie and the book.

The very next night we got the opportunity to go to the Shakespeare in the Park showing of A Midsummers Night Dream.

It was a beautiful day to sit and watch the show.

Sometimes I am convinced we're actually a secret gang of book nerds rather than a regular book club.

The show was great and the acting was incredible, there were only 8 actors but there were many more characters portrayed.

Overall the night was truly wonderful and I cant wait to see these lovely ladies for the next book club!

The Adventure-club!

Here are the final products from last time when we did the glass fusion.

This time we just hung out and had fun, we brought items to make layettes for when Gillian and Amy go to Haiti.

We all had a good time visiting and chatting.  We didn't have a book this month because we decided we didn't have enough time to finish it before this meeting, next month we'll be discussing The Help.

Even when we don't read a book we always manage to have a great time.  Weather it's playing Pandemic, petting the dog, or chatting about everything, it's always a good time.

Yacht Party?

For this month's book club we got to go to a glass studio and make pendants.

It was a lot of work making all of the tiny pieces look just the way you wanted them to but it was a blast having everyone together.

The process involved lots of little parts of glass that you layered together in a sort of collage which then got melted down to make a lovely pendant that you could use as a necklace!

We all had a great time learning about glass and hanging out with friends. (here we have almost caught a photo of the elusive pillow-head. Better luck next time.)

It was a lot of work but we managed to make it a lot of fun too.

After the pendants were done we got to mess around for a while before sitting down for cake and having our chat about the book of the month, "Here Today" by Ann Martin.

These are the necklaces before being put in the kiln and fired down, I can't wait to see how they all turned out!

This was a surprise for the girls from the moms who kept telling us the surprise was they were buying a yacht.  So when Liana and I made a cake we called it a yacht party.  While it was no yacht party it was a unique surprise and a fun adventure in it's own way. (Plus, who want's to go on a yacht during April in Ohio? brr.)

As always this outing with these wonderful ladies was spectacular and I can't wait for
 next time!

Scarves 101

With Isabel as our teacher we learned lots of new ways to wear scarves.

We learned how to wear them in our hair and around our necks in styles such as: the boy scout, the Paris, the infinity, and the scullery maid.

It was a lot of fun trying on scarves and learning how to wear the different styles.

We helped each other and laughed a lot.
This is Debbie helping Bev with the band and twist.

Even the pets decided to join us!

Then afterwards we decorated some delicious cookies.

We were sad that Amy and Anna couldn't be there but we had a great time being together, just like we always do.

(We didn't have a book this month due to some confusion but we have one for next time!)
